EDC BUSINESS ENGLISH WORKSHOP SERIES

FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.  WHAT’S THE “BOTTOM LINE”?

Financial Statements are vital documents. Once you can “read” statements, you totally understand the financial performance and condition of any business. Then you can communicate globally about financial matters and be a more confident business person.

Financial statement terms are used every day: Sales and costs; profit and loss; assets and liabilities; capital and debt to name just a few.  Executives and staff at any level benefit when they can easily understand the “story” each statement tells.

The BUSINESS ENGLISH of FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

The Profit and Loss, or P&L, shows financial results over a period of time.  The Balance Sheet shows the financial health at a moment in time.  The Cash Flow Statement shows the actual change in a company’s cash.  The connections between the statements are fascinating.

Understanding the English Business vocabulary in found in these statements is critical for global business people – whether they use statements regularly or not. Understanding the “whole picture” and the “stories” they tell gives you powerful insights into a business.
